BIOGRAPHY
Gandalf is a musician, composer and producer, born and living in Austria near the “City of Music”, Vienna. He is a musical poet. In his delicately structured compositions, mostly without words, he is telling tales full of magic and fascination, tales of joy and sadness, love and universal harmony.
The language of his music is international and made him earn recognition from far beyond the borders of his homeland. Gandalf’s work is inspired by Classical Music as well as Ethnic Music from different cultures. He blends a multitude of instruments like piano, acoustic and electric guitars, mandola, sitar, saz, balaphon, cello, flutes, oboe and various percussion with spherical keyboard-sounds. In his unmistakable handwriting he weaves folkloristic tunes with large
symphonic arrangements into soulful melodious soundscapes.
Since the beginning of his career in the early Eighties the artist has constantly been following his vision of a global kind of music beyond musical categories and clichés. Besides numerous album-releases, Gandalf has composed and arranged music for symphony orchestra (Symphonic Landscapes, Earthsong & Stardance) and soundtracks for theatre, film and TV. Among other international artists he worked with Steve Hackett, the legendary guitarist of Genesis
His records can be found on playlists of radio-stations and internet-platforms all over the world.
“Music is one of the most essential things in my life. Since my early childhood it stimulated my fantasy and took me on adventurous journeys to unknown places of my mind. Better than anything else, music is a way to share my most intimate feelings and visions with others, a way to directly communicate from heart to heart. All my life music has been some kind of sanctuary for me, a protected area to withdraw from all the noise and craziness in this world and find myself comfort and peace.”    G.
