"We all long for some kind of protected zone in our lives, a place to withdraw from the noise and craziness in the world, a refuge of balance and peace. Some find it in the silence of a forest, in the remoteness of mountains or the rolling waves by the seaside. Some find it in sacred places, praying or practicing meditation.
All my life, besides having a very close relationship with nature, playing or just listening to real music has been a never-ending source of joy and inspiration and also a way to find comfort and peace whenever I was in trouble, like passing a gate into a hidden sanctuary."

"Sanctuary" is the 30th album in Gandalf´s career since his debut in 1981, meanwhile the fifth release on the Californian label Real Music.

On his new production Gandalf plays acoustic and electric guitars, bouzuki, electric sitar, grand piano, keyboards, balaphon, bells and various percussion.
Merike Hilmar plays cello.
Christian Strobl plays darabuka and djembe.

With the same lineup Gandalf will be performing a series of concerts in 2009.
